Social media platforms can make the humble business card seem a bit redundant. But I am here to explain why I wouldn’t write them advise you not to write them off as an independent fashion brand. Having a business card can help make you look more professional, organised and trustworthy, plus they are convenient. Even in the digital age business cards offer us many benefits.

1. It’s Personal

Creating good connections is what we aim to do, right? A business card allows you to approach new people more openly, and confidently. Making someone take out their phone to jot down your information can feel laboured. Handing over a card allows you to chat without interruption, and create a more memorable meeting. Remember, you’re asking someone to get in touch with you or pass your information along, a card shows that you mean business.

2. It’s All About The First Impressions

You never know when you will meet someone interesting, and it’s good to be prepared for every eventuality. Sometimes technology can fail us, our phone battery can die when we need it, or maybe there are no pens handy. Having a card to hand will make you look like you stand out in any situation.

3. Don’t Miss A Marketing Opportunity

There’s a fine design balance to creating a well-designed business card. Incorporating all the information people need to find you, while at the same time keeping them simple and easy to read. Creating an interesting business card is a chance to show creativity and flair. You can tell a lot from the 59 x 84 mm sized card, it acts as a portable extension of your brand, a great opportunity to grab someone’s attention and show off.

4. Trade Show Essentials

Having cards at trade shows is an essential part of getting the most out of your visit. Suppliers take your cards as a reminder as to who has visited them, along with notes about the fabrics you want to order, swatches you need, or further information you’d like to discuss over email. I can’t imagine attending a show without them. Collect many cards in return, to be able to keep in touch with new suppliers and send follow up emails and make the most of your visit.

5. All Your Details In One Place

Neat tidy, easy to see. What a great customer experience. Email, website, phone number and Instagram handle, plus any extra information you feel need to be on there. As a designer, this is just a small piece of cardboard joy. (If you’d like help putting together a business card of your own, just let me know and we can work out a way to express your brand.)

I am so happy with my new business cards, I have a lot of events coming up so finally got around to putting them together. I got them printed with Moo, it was easy and am really pleased with the result, they’re made from recycled cotton T-shirts, which is a concept I love. Love, Lottie xx
